"Active case studies" means how many you hold at any one time: it does not limit how many you create per month; when you delete an old case study, you can create a new one in its place.
The Free plan has no time limit. Once billing starts, you'll be able to cancel paid plans anytime and get a no-questions-asked refund within 14 days of your first payment.
On the Growth plan you keep 25 active case studies at a time; at $69 a month that's $2.76 per active case study. Having a single case study written externally usually costs many times more than that.

The Free plan has no time limit. The only restriction is that you can hold 3 active case studies at a time; you can upgrade to a higher plan whenever you like.
Neither; it limits how many case studies you hold at any one time. For example, on the Starter plan you can have at most 10 case studies at once, but there is no limit on how many you create per month. When you reach the limit, you either delete an old one to make room for a new case study or upgrade to a higher plan.
Payments aren't live yet, so there's no plan selection right now; during early access most features are open to everyone. Once billing starts, you'll be able to change your plan from the dashboard. When you move up a plan, your case study limit goes up right away; your existing case studies are never deleted by a plan change.
